A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled

"Michigan election law,"

by amending section 764c (MCL 168.764c), as amended by 2018 PA 120.

the people of the state of michigan enact:

Sec. 764c. (1) If a city or township has access to the absent voter ballot tracker program provided by this state, the clerk of that city or township shall utilize the absent voter ballot tracker program and allow voters to track their absent voter ballots online.

(2) Beginning on the effective date of the amendatory act that added this subsection, the secretary of state shall expand the absent voter ballot tracker program to do both of the following:

(a) Allow an elector to provide the elector's email address or telephone number to the secretary of state.

(b) Require the secretary of state to send an email or text message to an elector described in subdivision (a) each time there is an update regarding the status of that elector's absent voter ballot application or absent voter ballot in the absent voter ballot tracker program.
