A bill to amend 1994 PA 203, entitled

"Foster care and adoption services act,"

(MCL 722.951 to 722.960) by adding section 4f.

the people of the state of michigan enact:

Sec. 4f. (1) Beginning January 1, 2023 and subject to appropriation, the department must provide a 1-time stipend of $1,500.00 to youth who are exiting foster care upon reaching 18 years of age. The 1-time stipend is to be used toward a deposit of first and last month's rent for the youth.

(2) The 1-time stipend described in subsection (1) must be paid directly to the landlord upon the youth securing a lease after exiting foster care upon reaching 18 years of age.
