Rep. Jim Haadsma, from the 62nd District, offered the following invocation:
“Colleagues,
Let us take a moment to reflect upon what we do here today.
As we sit in this chamber, let us remember to open our hearts and minds;
Let us acknowledge the struggles of those whose stories are different than our own;
Let us seek to help shoulder the burdens of those less fortunate;
As Galatians 6:2-3 says
‘Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important.’
We who sit within this chamber are no more important than those who stand outside it;
We sit within this chamber to serve others; to serve those who have elected to send us here; and to serve those who have not.
As Phillippians 2:2-4 says;
‘Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.’
Our state is at a crossroads. Our nation is at a crossroads;
We will decide the path we must take;
So let us take the path marked with empathy, equity, and love;
Let us take the path that is lined with kindness and care;
Long after we are gone, our legacy will remain;
Let it be a legacy of service and care;
And let us all think upon the changes we must make to achieve such peace and glory here on earth for all humankind;
So we may be worthy of such peace and glory when we depart this world;
Amen.”

The Speaker Pro Tempore assumed the Chair.

Motions and Resolutions
Reps. Carra, Bezotte, Bellino, Meerman, Rendon, Steven Johnson, Eisen, Hall, Maddock, Reilly, Posthumus, Roth, Allor, Borton, Markkanen, Hoitenga, Marino, LaFave and Clements offered the following concurrent resolution:
House Concurrent Resolution No. 16.
A concurrent resolution to censure Hillary R. Clinton and Michael A. Sussman.
Whereas, In September 2021, Michael A. Sussman was indicted for making false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The indictment stemmed from Special Counsel John Durham’s investigation related to intelligence activities and investigations arising out of the 2016 presidential campaigns; and
Whereas, The indictment outlines the
serious allegations against Mr. Sussman and his connection to the Hillary
Clinton Presidential Campaign. It alleges that Mr. Sussman requested a meeting
with the FBI’s General Counsel to provide evidence of a secret communication
channel between the Trump Organization and a Russian bank. The indictment
further alleges that Mr. Sussman told the FBI General Counsel that he was not
doing his work for any client when, in fact, he was acting on behalf of private
clients, including the Hillary Clinton Presidential Campaign. The indictment
indicates that this lie was material because it misled the FBI about the nature
of Mr. Sussman’s work and prevented investigators from properly assessing the
evidence; and
Whereas, The Sussman indictment and subsequent filings clearly outline allegations that Mr. Sussman, acting on behalf of the Clinton campaign, presented material to the FBI designed to ensnare his employer’s political opponent in criminal and counterintelligence investigations, and lied about the nature of his connection with the Clinton campaign to prevent the FBI from seeing through the scheme; and
Whereas, Mr. Sussman’s alleged actions on behalf of the Clinton campaign contributed to a series of investigations that sought to prove a false Trump Organization-Russian collusion narrative. The Russian collusion narrative was extremely detrimental to the nation, wasting valuable time and resources, diminishing citizens’ faith in duly elected leaders, and damaging the reputation of people who did nothing wrong; and
Whereas, Individuals who wrongly fed the false collusion narrative and sowed distrust in our elected leaders under false pretenses should be reprimanded. The allegations against Mr. Sussman, and the presidential candidate who employed him, clearly warrant censure from this body; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring), That we censure Hillary R. Clinton and Michael A. Sussman; and be it further
Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to Hillary R. Clinton and Michael A. Sussman.
The concurrent resolution was referred to the Committee on Government Operations.

In this day and age where we are asking to rename statues. buildings and monuments to ensure we are not honoring racists, I do not feel that we should continue naming these things, including highways without knowing who they are and what they stand for.”
Rep. Hope, having reserved the right to explain her protest against the passage of the bill, made the following statement:
“Mr. Speaker and members of the House:
I support higher education, and I support job training. However, this bill is corporate welfare with little accountability for the businesses who take advantage of this program. This money is used only to train prospective employees to the company’s specifications; it cannot be used for those employees to pursue additional training or to fulfill their other educational goals. Lastly, this bill requires that employers pay little more than $16/hour. These are not career jobs; they are subsistence jobs. And Michigan taxpayers wind up footing the bill.”
