Senator Rick Outman of the 33rd District offered the following invocation:

Dear heavenly Father, thank You for this day and for another opportunity to do Your will. I ask that You bless these proceedings as we labor to do what is good for this state and nation.

Father, long ago You called a people together out of relative obscurity and molded them into a great nation. You called them Your own, the very apple of Your eye. You promised that they would be more numerous than the grains of sand on the beach, than the stars in the sky. You gave them a land to call their own forever. You gave them a king and promised that his seed would rule forever. You gave them Your law to live by and You commanded them to be a blessing to all nations.

We as a state and nation have certainly been the recipients of this. Our very foundation is based on Judeo-Christian principles. You promised to bless those who bless Your people and to curse those who curse them. Help us to bless the nation of Israel. Thank you, Father, for Your protective presence over Your covenant people. Thank You that Your love for them is unconditional, unfailing, unending. Thank You for Your promise that Israel will be preserved as long as the sun, moon, and stars are in the sky, as long as the earth exists.

We pray all this in the name of Your Son, Jesus. Amen.

The President, Lieutenant Governor Gilchrist, led the members of the Senate in recital of the Pledge of Allegiance.
