CONTENT

The bill would amend the Michigan Vehicle Code to allow a new car dealer to operate a vehicle on a public street in connection with a golf tournament, charity event, or public civic event if the vehicle displayed a special plate.

Under the Code, a dealer owning a vehicle otherwise required to be registered under the Code may operate the vehicle on a street or highway without registering the vehicle if the vehicle displays one special plate issued to the owner by the Secretary of State (SOS). "Dealer" includes an employee, servant, or agent of the dealer.

In addition, under the bill, a vehicle owned by a new vehicle dealer otherwise required to be registered under the Code could operate or move on a street or highway in connection with a golf tournament, charity event, or public civic event if the vehicle displayed one special plate approved by the SOS.

The SOS also could issue additional special plates to use for similar purposes.
