Pastor Craig Rees,
Lead Pastor of Central Wesleyan Church in Holland, offered the following
invocation:
“Almighty God,
You are the
Governor of the nations and the Judge of all the earth. As the Psalmist
declares, ‘Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne;
steadfast love and faithfulness go before You.’
We come before You
today as generations of American leaders have done—from statehouses to the
Continental Congress—recognizing that our freedoms are preserved not only by
policy, but by Providence. In the words of President Lincoln, may we ‘do right
as God gives us to see the right,’ and govern with integrity and courage.
We pray now for
this House, for its Representatives, and for all who labor here.
Grant them wisdom
beyond partisanship, vision beyond election cycles, and a deep sense of
responsibility for the people of Michigan—those they represent and those
without a voice. Let every debate be shaped by truth, every decision weighed
with humility, and every law formed for the common good.
In a time of
cultural division, may these leaders model unity that is not the absence of
conviction, but the presence of character. Let their disagreements be
honorable, their deliberations thoughtful, and their decisions anchored in what
serves the long-term good of all Michiganders.
As they face
complex decisions—on education that shapes our children, on infrastructure that
connects our communities, on the economy that sustains our families, on justice
that upholds our dignity, and on public health that protects our future—may
they do so with wisdom from above.
Grant them the
courage to do what is right, not just what is easy; and may their leadership
invite Your favor and earn the enduring trust of the people they serve.
Bless this House
with clarity in vision, civility in speech, and courage in action.
In Jesus’s name we
pray. Amen.”
