Rep. Mike Hoadley, from the 99th District, offered the following invocation:
“Hear God call you to worship through His word:
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.
O Lord God, Father of mercies, the fountain of comfort and blessing, of life and peace, of plenty and pardon, Who fills heaven with glory, and earth with goodness – we give You the most earnest, the most humble and most enlarged returns of our glad and thankful hearts. For You have refreshed us with Your comforts, and enlarged us with Your blessings. You have made our flesh and bones rejoice, for, besides the blessing of all mankind, the blessings of nature, and the blessings of grace, the support of every minute, and the comforts of every day, You have opened Yourself and at this time have poured out an excellent expression of Your loving kindness.
O Lord, we do not deserve a glimpse of Heaven and are unable with our works to redeem ourselves from sin and death. Nevertheless, You have given us Your son Jesus Christ. For this we rejoice, praise and thank You God. Without cost and out of pure grace You have given us this boundless blessing in Your dear son. Through him You take sin and death and heal from us and do grant us all belongs to him. Therefore, our hearts are glad, and our whole beings rejoice; our flesh also dwells secure.
Be present, God of Wisdom, and direct the council of this assembly. Enable us to settle things on the surest foundation; that order and harmony and peace may be established in our state so that truth and justice, and health and wealth flourish among the masses. All these things we ask in the name and through the merits of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
Father what we know not, teach us, what we have not, give to us. What we are not, make us for the sake of Your Son our Savior.
Amen.”

Whereas, Michigan’s residents, businesses, schools, and local governments have demonstrated leadership in promoting recycling, protecting water quality, and supporting conservation practices to ensure that Michigan’s natural resources are preserved for current and future generations; and
